Canadian Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)
The PGP Sponsorship Program allows Canadian permanent residents and citizens to sponsor their parents and grandparents to obtain Canadian permanent residency. In general, Canada’s parent sponsorship program allows citizens and permanent residents of this country to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada. This program is divided into two categories: Parent Sponsorship Program and Canada Super Visa Program
Sponsor conditions
- Permanent resident, Canadian citizen, or a person registered as an “Indian” under Canadian law.
- Receive an invitation to apply
- Living in Canada
- At least 18 years old
- Having enough income to meet the needs of parents and grandparents
- Meet all requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and related regulations
Income conditions
- All sponsors must have sufficient income to support their parents and grandparents in Canada.
- The sponsor must demonstrate that they have met the income requirement for the last 3 tax years.
- A sponsor’s spouse or common-law partner can act as a signatory on the PGP program and use their income to meet the minimum income.
- The sponsor’s spouse or common-law partner must also sign an undertaking to provide financial support to the parent or grandparent.
Place of residence of the sponsor
The sponsor must live in Canada. Also, the sponsor’s primary residential address must be in Canada at the time the application is submitted and until a decision is made on the application.

Parents and grandparents approved under the PGP program receive Canadian permanent residency and may eventually be able to apply for citizenship.
