Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that Canada will soon hold an Express Entry draws targeting candidates in six new categories.
Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has announced the introduction of category-based draws, in a move that reflects Canada-specific programs in the Express Entry program management system.
The draws, which are expected to begin later this summer, will allow Canada to bring in skilled workers with work experience in high-demand occupations.
The six new IRCC groups for the Express Entry category draws include candidates with the following:
- Strong command of French
- Work experience in healthcare
- Work experience in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professions.
- Work experience in Trades professions
- Work experience in transportation business
- Work experience in agriculture and food industry
To be eligible for one of IRCC’s job category draws, Express Entry applicants must have at least six consecutive months of work experience in one of the eligible industries within the past three years. This work experience can be in Canada or abroad. Candidates who hope to qualify for the draw based on the French language proficiency category must have a minimum score of 7 in all 4 language abilities of the Niveaux de Compétence Linguistique Canadiens.
