PR after study in Canada – the method of obtaining PR through education

PR after study in Canada

Students who have studied in Canada and want to stay in this country can obtain Canadian permanent residence through two methods:

  1. Federal Method: This method is suitable for students who have received their degree from an accredited Canadian university or college. After graduation, students can apply for a Post-Study Work permit(PGWP). With this permit, students can work in Canada between 8 months and 3 years depending on the duration of the study period. After completing the work period, they can apply for permanent residence in Canada through the Canadian Experience Program (CEC).
  2. Provincial Method: This method is suitable for students who want to live in a specific Canadian province. Each Canadian province has its own immigration programs. To participate in these programs, students must meet certain conditions.
Both of the above methods may seem a little long and expensive at first glance, but in the current situation, they are considered the best way to immigrate to Canada.

Converting a study permit to permanent residence in Canada

After graduating from educational institutions, students can apply for permanent residence in Canada through federal or provincial immigration procedures.

For example, if a student wants to apply for Canadian permanent residency through the Canadian Work Experience (CEC) program, they must first have one year of work experience in Canada. For this, he/she must first apply for a post-study work visa (PGWP) and after receiving the visa, start working in Canada. After one year of work, he can apply for the CEC program through the Express Entry system and convert his visa to permanent residence in Canada.
