Dependent Child Sponsorship Program
If Applicant is eligible, he can sponsor his dependent children by Canadian Dependent Child Sponsorship Program to become PRs .The main aim of the sponsorship of dependent children, which is offered through the Family Class sponsorship. It is to enable family members who reside in different countries to live together in Canada. Moreover, the Canadian Dependent Child Sponsorship Program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to bring their children from abroad to Canada as permanent residents.
Dependent children are the biological or adopted child of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. A child is a dependent if he doesn’t marry . Also, he is not in a common-law relationship and he is under the age of 22. Childers over the age of 22 are dependent if they suffer from a mental or physical condition that are not able to support themselves.
Parents who want to sponsor their child must:
- Be a permanent resident or Canadian citizen living in Canada
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Not be in prison, charged with a bankrupt or serious offense
- be able to provide for your basic needs and those of your dependent children as well as your spouse, if applicable;
- be able to prove your relationship to your child
- not have a criminal record
- not be in default of a previous sponsorship undertaking
- not be under immigration investigation;
- not be receiving income assistance, except for reasons of disability.
Parents will also need to provide proof of the relationship with the child, be it through adoption certificate or birth. For parents in the end stages of an adoption process, they may sponsor the adopted child before the adoption has been finalized. Moreover, to meeting the definition of a dependent child, the sponsored person must either be the biological child of the sponsor or the sponsor’s spouse. Also, The sponsored applicant must be the adopted child of the sponsor or the sponsor’s spouse.
