Atlantic Canada Immigration Program
Skilled workers interested in settling in the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, or Prince Edward Island can apply for permanent residence under the Atlantic Canada immigration program.
The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), formerly known as the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program, replaced the temporary program and became the permanent immigration program after its success in the region. IRCC initially began accepting applications for permanent residency under the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) on March 6, 2022.
AIP is an immigration program designed based on the shortage and job needs of the provinces in the region. The Atlantic provinces have designed this program to support employers and economic growth in their provinces by attracting qualified skilled workers.

Steps of the Atlantic Immigration Program
The first step: receiving a job offer
The job offer must be from one of the selected employers of one of the Atlantic provinces. On the website of each province, the conditions and procedures for selecting employers for the Atlantic provincial program are specified. Employers must have followed the work rules and have been operating in one of the Atlantic provinces for 2 consecutive years.
The second stage: collecting and preparing necessary documents and expenses
The applicant to immigrate to Atlantic Canada and apply for permanent residence must prepare all the necessary documents for this. If the documents are not complete and he cannot provide them on time, the work will be delayed.
These documents are:
- The results of the English or French language test (even if the applicant studied in Canada, preparing this document is required.)
- Proof of having enough financial resources to support yourself and your family
- Degree evaluation
Cost | Applicant | Spouse of the applicant | Each child |
---|---|---|---|
Review the case | 850 CAD | 850 CAD | 230 CAD |
The right to issue PR | 515 CAD | 515 CAD | |
Biometric | 85 CAD | If the applicant has a spouse and children, it is 170 Canadian dollars for the whole family. |
Step 3: Submit the permanent residence application online or on paper
Applying for permanent residence is another important step in the Atlantic Canada program. The applicant can register his residence request online.
The fourth step: checking the applicant’s records and the conditions of the case
At this stage, all the applicant’s documents are checked to confirm whether he is qualified or not. Then the applicant will receive an Acknowledgment of Receipt. This receipt confirms that the case review has started and has a case number.
During the process, if needed, a fingerprint letter will be issued to the applicant and he must do the fingerprinting. The Federal Immigration Service also checks the security and criminal records of the applicant.
After the review and if approved, a letter will be sent to the applicant, according to which he must perform some medical tests approved by the Immigration Department and send the receipt to the Immigration Department. If the applicant is not determined to be a danger to the public health of Canada, a permanent residence permit will be sent to him.
Important note:
- If the applicant meets the requirements for permanent residence, he may also be eligible to apply for a temporary work permit.
- With the help of this permit, the applicant can work while his residence application is being considered.
- This work permit is valid for one year and is only applicable to the Atlantic Canada immigration program.
